About The Author

Michael V. McCabe

During the August 2025-June 2026 school year, Dr. McCabe completed his 8th year teaching at a Title 1 high school in northern Virginia. During these eight years, he and his colleagues helped thousands of students navigate high school, graduate, and enter an ever-changing world as responsible adults. Dr. McCabe also taught adults, middle schoolers, and elementary students for three years in the 1970s.

A former U.S. Army officer and a former U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Officer, Dr. McCabe brings an unusually diverse background to his multicultural high school work environment. He has lived and worked in five countries in Asia and Europe and has studied three languages in addition to English.

Dr. McCabe recognizes the importance and usefulness of the English language in the United States, in many other countries, and in a variety of key professions internationally. He hopes that various editions of the Seven Speeches booklet will prove useful to folks learning English, to people who know English who are studying another language, and that the booklet will facilitate communication among family members with different levels of English fluency.

Dr. McCabe has three married children and several grandchildren. His first marriage lasted over 50 years, ending with his wife's passing. He has recently remarried.

A life-long educator, Dr. McCabe is pretty good at "doing school". He has a bachelor's degree, master's degrees in education, history, and national security studies, and a doctorate in education. Dr. McCabe is also a half-decent chess player, although admittedly not as good in these latter years as when he was younger. He is a lifetime member of the U.S. Chess Federation, MENSA, and the Sons of the American Revolution. Dr. McCabe is a descendant of several colonial Virginia families and has self-published a family genealogy. In 2025, Dr. McCabe received an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who's Who.

Dr. McCabe also writes a little poetry, has a wide-ranging sense of humor, and is toying with the idea of attempting some stand-up comedy. He is thankful for the many blessings God continues to give him, the love and acceptance given by family and friends, and for each day that he wakes up still on the top side of the grass.
